Pacific Northwest to The Valley
So, we actually filmed Steve and Taylor’s wedding video a few years ago at the coast in Oregon. When we moved to Arizona we learned that they had also moved and were living in Gilbert! What a perfect opportunity to catch up with them to create desert content with some Superstition Mountain Engagement Photos.
Phoenix Engagement Photographer
Any chance we get to come out to the Superstition Mountains for an Arizona engagement session is a plus in our book. Just east of Mesa, AZ are the Superstition Mountains, also referred to as “The Superstitions.” We decided to do a sunrise photoshoot to take advantage of the cooler temperatures in the morning. Summers here are HOT and it reaches 100 degrees by 9am. Our location for the engagement session was south of Lost Dutchman State Park off of the Broadway Trailhead. The trail is flat and easy and it gives you a different perspective of the Superstition Mountains. During our sunrise session we captured some beautiful soft backlight as the sun was peeking over the mountain range. Mix together good light, Saguaro’s, Cholla’s, and the Superstitions and you get some beautiful photos.
Superstition Mountain Engagement Photos Shot on Medium Format Film:
This collection of Superstition Mountain Engagement Photos was shot using a Contax 645 medium format film camera. The film stock we used was a mix of Portra 400 and FUJI 400 120 film and The Find Lab did the developing and scanning. (Make sure you make it to the bottom to watch Steve and Taylor’s wedding video!)
Location Scouting
The awesome thing about being new to Arizona is that we get to discover locations we’ve never been to. After the shoot we went location scouting and realized there are so many places to take engagement photos in Arizona. We found a lot of remote photoshoot locations as we took dirt roads off of Highway 88 towards Roosevelt Lake - just the perfect area for a Phoenix Engagement Photographer. If you do decide to go off the beaten path make sure your vehicle has good off-road tires, 4 wheel drive, and high clearance. We found ourselves driving through some pretty rugged terrain to get to some amazing spots.
